Government response to primary assessment consultation

The Government has responded to the primary assessment consultation, which you can read here.

The key points from their response are:

  • Reception: there will be a reception baseline, which will be used as the starting point from which to measure a school’s progress.
  • KS1: at the end of KS1, there will be externally-set, internally-marked tests in mathematics and reading. There will also be an externally-set test in grammar, punctuation and spelling.
  • KS2: at the end of KS2, pupils will continue to sit externally-set and marked tests in mathematics, reading, and grammar, punctuation and spelling. A sample of pupils will continue to sit tests in science to give a picture of national performance. Writing will continue to be teacher-assessed.
  • Expected standard: the new expected standard is equivalent to Level 4b or pupils making sufficient progress at KS2 from their starting point in the reception baseline.

We are working with subject specialists to take all the Testbase assessment items and realign them to the new curriculum.

We will continue to support you all the way from teacher assessment through to test preparation.
